This one's for the record books. This is the longest government shutdown in United States history.

The previous longest was in 1995-96 and lasted 21 days.

Most food safety inspections have been halted as a result. However, the FDA plans to resume some of the inspections. In order to make this work, they'll have to ask forloughed workers to come in and work.

The FDA will still be announcing recalls, but they won't be looking for salmonella, listeria, or e. Coli.
