Deer in Washington State have been found for the first time to have AHD. No...not ADHD, Adenovirus Hemorrhagic Disease. The disease has been found commonly in other western states and can be fatal to deer. If a deer has AHD, they will have signs of open-mouth breathing, foaming or drooling at the mouth, diarrhea, weakness, and emaciation according to reports.

The disease is only transmitted between deer, so livestock and other animals are not at risk. There is no cure or treatment for AHD and officials expect the virus to spread where deer concentrations are higher. If you see a deer showing signs of AHD, please contact the WDFW’s Ridgefield office at 360-696-6211.
