The driver wasn't doing anything illegal... the sun was in his eyes and the educator was on a bicycle.

Greg Gelderman was a 62-year-old administrator at Seattle Pacific University and was formerly a principal in the Everett School District.

He was on Road 24 exploring the Mid Columbia on his bicycle when a 38-year-old driving a 2005 Chrysler 300 full of passengers hit him going southwest.

It's a truly heartbreaking incident for all parties involved... including us. We want our roads to be safe for cycling. It's a reminder to cyclists to watch for vehicles because they aren't always watching for you. It's a reminder to drivers to look for cyclists and remember to share the road. The driver will be haunted by this for years, and of course Gelderman's friends and families are suffering right now.
