Kennewick police sounded almost empathetic toward a man who escaped from custody at the Benton County Justice Center yesterday.

They called him a gentleman, said he posed no risk to the public, and that he just wanted to see his girlfriend one more time.

He eluded police for two hours while trying to find his girlfriend.

He eventually took refuge at a friend's apartment near Kamiakin High School where police finally caught up to him after a tip.
