This morning I saw what SHOULD have been exciting news: a report that the Loch Ness Monster had been spotted with satellite images. In the story I read this morning they were talking about fins, and 100-foot bodies and natural wakes -- it sounded too good to be true. So I hopped on the Internet and found the picture they were talking about. Then I had serious doubts about the story.

All it took was Googling "Loch Ness Satellite" and I had my answer. Why every news organization in the world didn't Google it is beyond me. The answer is they're rooted in sensationalism: "Let's mislead people to get their attention." Roll along with the sensationalism to get numbers. It's a ratings game.

The true source of the mysterious wake is one of only three boats with a license to tour on Loch Ness. The answer was so glaringly clear it's REALLY surprising there was no mention of it in any of the news stories I saw.

If you see a boat on Loch Ness, it is probably that boat. And all of the photos of that boat have that wake shape. So why don't you see the boat in the image? Because the contrast is turned down -- it blends in. Turn the contrast up and you'll see a blue and white boat with the identical "footprint" in the water.
