A man jumped into the Columbia River near Mattawa to save a group of three juveniles. He helped two get to shore but disappeared before he saved the third. The third swimmer managed to return to shore downstream but the man is still missing. Authorities identified the man as Luis Alfredo Garcia Munoz, 22, of Yakima. Several police agencies have been looking along the river but they had to call of the search on Tuesday because of strong current.

Reports say that they will resume the search for the man on Wednesday.

"After his selfless act of courage to help the young swimmers, this is a tragic outcome that is heartbreaking to his family as well as first responders," Sheriff Tom Jones said. "We will pray for this young man and his family during this very difficult time and hope that the community does the same.”
