Alshon Jeffery is one of the best receivers in the NFL and one of the players you have to watch in the Super Bowl this weekend. Did you know he relies on a trainer from the Tri-Cities to stay in shape?

That trainer is Steven Whitehead, a local football star himself and owner of his own personal training gym right here in the Tri-Cities. After retiring from playing for the Tri-Cities Fever indoor football team, Whitehead started his own gym called Elite Ambitions Training in 2012 to teach some of the skills he used to stay in shape while he was playing.

When Whitehead first met Jeffery, he had missed most of his last 2 seasons because of injuries.

"He had been injured the better part of two years before I started working with him. I realized his body was out of alignment, which was causing soft tissue injuries in his calves, hamstrings and groin.” said Whitehead in an interview.

After working with him for a year and a half, Jeffery has remained healthy and is one of the NFL's biggest stars.

Now Jeffery has him travel around the country to treat him and other NFL receivers on his team.

“The Philadelphia strength and conditioning coaches were open to communicating with me, and we worked out a plan for him for the season. That had me most nervous at first, I didn’t want to step on their toes. But they have been open and great to make sure he gets what he needs. I’m not medically certified, and a lot of teams wouldn’t let you in the door, but we all want the same thing, which is to keep him healthy” said Whitehead.

I am lucky enough to have met Steven multiple times and I am glad to say he is one of the nicest guys and deserves all the success he has had.

If the Eagles win on Sunday and Jeffery has a big part in the game, just remember the guy who made it all possible from right here in the Tri-Cities.
