The tavern owners say it's a case of mistaken ownership. Pendleton police say it's theft.

When the old hospital was torn down, the owners of 40 Taps obtained the historic doors from the hospital and installed them at their establishment back in 2014.

Knowingly or unknowingly, those doors belonged to someone else.

Police say the doors are desirable to preserve local history and honor the memories of residents who walked through those doors to meet for the first time, or say goodbye for the last time, family members.

And besides that, apparently they're wicked cool looking.

Police say it was straight up theft, and the owners say it's all a misunderstanding. Who knows the truth, but until it's worked out the purveyors of the one-year-old pub are in big trouble.
