Richland School District took the bold decision to start school at normal time despite Kennewick and Pasco districts announcing a 2-hour delay. Then a school bus slid off the road.

The accident was captured by KEPR Action News on its Facebook page. The photo shows the bus in the shoulder of the road and the caption explains it slid into a fire hydrant and onto a sidewalk while navigating an icy hill on the way to Orchard Elementary in south Richland. No one was hurt.

Although much of the snow from Tuesday night's storm was gone by Thursday morning, that which had been packed into ice on local roads remained. Streets that had been cleared, salted or sanded were fine, but all others were slick in the cold morning air.
