An Alaska volcano called Pavlof erupted Sunday afternoon sending ash over 20,000 feet into the atmosphere according to news reports. The volcano is located about 600 miles southwest of Anchorage but is still fairly near a town that is only 40 miles away.  Alaska State Troopers do not know of any injuries related to the eruption but the USGS has elevated the volcano warning meter to high meaning there are threats both on the ground and in the sky.

This volcano is one of the most active in Alaska and has erupted 40 times in recorded history. The last eruption at this volcano was in 2013.
