Back in 2010 a phenomenon in night clubs caught the attention of the Swedish press: rich kids were buying expensive champagne and asking bartenders to dump it to down the sink. It was called "sinking."

Apparently, it began with a ban on the spraying of champagne. To party hard, the rich kids would buy expensive bottles and spray them all over the place, creating a terrible mess. The clubs in a few cities all started banning the practice.

To make a statement to the clubs, the kids started buying the champagne and then telling the server to just dump it. Experts are saying it's really more about "flipping the bird" to people who thought the spraying was a waste. It's also an act of defiance against critics of wealthy culture, saying with your actions, "I don't care what you think of me!"
