Sherilyn Jacobson deserves a parade. If you look up "unsung hero" in the dictionary you'll find her picture. I can't believe someone would take up their own time to help others in this way.

Jacobson is proud of her military service, as is her husband. So when looking for a way to give back to her community, she volunteered to clean off headstones in the military cemetery at Fort Walla Walla.

She went to a cemetery professional for advice and he told her about a pile of headstones sent to him by Veteran Affairs he needed help with. Over the years, the VA shipped him roughly 30 headstones for vets who had passed away between 1970 and 1990.

She went to work locating the families of the vets notifying them the stones were available.

She found two World War II vets in unmarked graves!

  • John Darrell Hamilton, died March 24, 1999 (served in WWII)
  • Orris Lee May, died Nov. 8, 2010 (Navy)
  • Paul Ray Singleton, died Aug. 9, 2009 (Marines)
