Where Did All the Jack Rabbits Go?

I've only lived here 5 years, but I enjoy seeing jack rabbits scurry across the road. I've heard from people who've lived here longer that there are FAR FEWER than there used to be.

One coworker said driving from Richland to Bombing Range Road he used to see AT LEAST 10 rabbits. But he hasn't seen ANY recently.

You can still see them sometimes in West Richland and Benton City, but seeing one in Kennewick now is like discovering a unicorn! (OK, maybe not quite the same)

What happened to them? Are we driving them away? Are they going extinct? Who knows??? Comment on Facebook if you have an idea.
